HOPE FOR VISUAL IMPAIRMENTS – sight conditions and diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma can understandably lead to anxious pets that find it hard to carry out every day activities, such as walking, eating, and playing with toys. Muffins Halo provides protection to help them adjust to their condition as they lead a bump-free life
NEW TRICKS FOR OLD DOGS – blind dog accessories like Muffin's Halo let you help your beloved pup and feel joy from seeing their confidence build as they begin to adapt to the device. They learn to trust it as it redirects them from bumping into hard obstacles
HOW IT WORKS – when the halo taps a hard surface, it acts as a buffer to safeguard your dog’s head, face and nose from contact and avoiding pain and accidents. The contact of the halo with the surface teaches the dog to change direction and learn their surroundings
It helps my blind dog from not hitting her head into hard surface. The only problem is the halo is touching her ears when she turns her head and that makes her stop all the time. Can only adjust so far away from her ears.Darla has had cataracts since birth. She has only been able to see light and dark. As a puppy she learned to navigate around both houses we lived in - easily jumping off couches, racing her brother to the back yard - but there have been a few times throughout her 4 years that shes slammed into something and I've been nervous to check her teeth because I didn't think her front teeth would be there anymore! (All teeth are still in tact, thank the Lord) She just had her 4th birthday in June, and I've noticed she's been laying in bed more often..sometimes all day. Darla and her brother Dexter were staying with my parents a few weeks ago, and my parents mentioned I should try a halo for her because they saw her bump into more things than usual. Darla visits their house often and knows the layout of the house well, but she was still struggling. So we are trying Muffin's Halo because it is my obligation as her mother to try and incorporate anything I can into her life that will make her more comfortable and confident as a blind dog. Because this halo is an all new sensory tool for her, after 4 years of getting by on her own, we are starting by training with the halo 2 hours a day. Every day, 2 times a day, I make Darla get out of bed and explore the house. I guide her through the house a few times, with the incentive of treats, she goes in the back yard, and then I let her rest with it on for a few minutes then take it off. We have only had the Halo for about 3 days, and I'm very impressed. I've watched the Halo block her from bumping into doorways and hampers. It even blocks her older brother, Dexter, from bumping into her! My point is, you cant just slap this on your dog and expect it to work perfectly. Its a new sense for them, and if you're the parent of a blind dog, you know how sensitive their senses are. Do everything you can to associate the Halo with fun and praise. Give a treat once you put it on, and another when you take it off. To be honest, I think dogs can tell when something is helping them. For Darla, she won't wear this all the time, only during her exploration hours. However I am expecting that she will become more confident and enjoy the house and yard more instead of napping in bed. The Halo wings are very sturdy. There is NO reason why you should make your dog wear this on a walk. Darla can walk fine without the halo. If you're the one on the other end of the leash, directing the dog, your dog should be in no danger of bumping into anything on a walk! However, I could see someone taking the Halo with them on a walk, if the destination is a dog park or something. I watched Darla shake multiple times with the Halo on and the wings did not move. I sent the seller pictures of Darla and they suggested a medium. It fits perfect and the package arrived a day early. The package came with two size Halos, and the smaller one works perfect for her. I DID think about it after the fact, that getting a white one wasn't a good idea, but Darla hardly ever has the chance to get dirty! She sleeps all day! Today while we were training she got some dirt on the harness, but it was because she was exploring outside! Worrying about getting the harness dirty is a human vanity thing - your dog doesn't care! I will update my review as progress ensues!I love how well product fits. It seems to really help him navigate in new environmentsThis product was such a relief for my baby. I adopted a 16 year old Maltese that had one eye and was turned into the Humane Society as he was I’ll. We found he had cushings disease and that’s why he lost one eye and was losing the second. My vet recommended euthanasia as my little dog was struggling with walking around and could injure his eye or face. I could not bear to do that as he was so loving. I’m blessed to have found this website and this product. I tried this on my dog. It fit beautifully and after he figured out what it was he now walks around my house with confidence and is learning the layout. I leave him with it in when I go to work and he can roam around find his food and water and even motor around my fenced yard. He is living a happy life as an old man and is recovering from being abandoned by his prior owner. He fits into my pack and is now able to engage with them with no fear. Thank you so much for Muffins wings as it gave my little Bobo his life back. He should live for another year being happy and able to explore his world again. I so recommend this product for anyone who has an kind dog. Easy to clean and easy to fit my dog. It is a blessing. I’m going to get another one for my senior who is slowly losing her sight now that I have seen what it does for Bobo. This is a well-thought-out product and works very very well. Unfortunately my dog has canine cognitive dysfunction and was unable to negotiate critical functions with it on (eating, drinking, sleeping, etc). I believe this would be a wonderful device for a dogs without the cognitive issues. The pictures show the Halo at above eye level, however, it naturally adjusts only to eye level after settling. I don't think it would pose an issue for most dogs. After one of our dogs went blind suddenly, it was quickly obvious that he was going to have issues around the house, he was walking into walls and doors face first. He ended up just laying around.A quick search on the internet came up with halos, there are a few different ones out there at various price points and honestly, when it comes to our boys I would rather pay more and get a quality product. This one is easy to put together and fit on the dog, it appears comfortable and most importantly, it works. Our dog is back to walking around and instead of walking into things the halo steers his head away. Now honestly, for what it is, it is over priced, but, again, it's well made, it has quality materials and most importantly, it works, so yes I would recommend it to anyone who finds themselves and their dog in this horrible situation. The halo is working very well! Thank you!
